Career Tech Teacher Trek

Career
Tech Teacher Trek is a new program started during the 2007-2008 school
year. The Foundation covered the cost of substitute teachers, rented
a school bus and took 25 eighth grade teachers and counselors on a full-day
tour of the thirteen Career Academy Magnet Programs.
"Career
Tech Teacher Trek" is an opportunity for teachers and other
participants to observe first hand a group of programs
that emphasize the development of skills in a real world milieu leading
directly to a career. Even though all the programs prepare students
to continue on to post-secondary education, some students elect to use
their newly acquired skills to work directly after high school or between
high school and college. Many university educated people do not understand
that there are a great many occupations whereby an individual can earn
an excellent income without paying the high costs required for a university
education. Career Tech Teacher Trek highlights these
issues for teachers to enable them to share more comprehensive information
concerning career preparation with students and parents." -Dave
Edwards, Director of Career Technical Education
"Career Tech Teacher Trek is a wonderful opportunity to introduce educators
to the magnet programs. As guidance counselors, I believe we are the key
in helping to recruit students to these programs. As I went through the
tour I was thinking of specific students that would benefit from these programs."
