Our Mission
Investing in the future of Alachua County's students
is the primary mission of the Alachua County Public Schools Foundation,
a not-for-profit philanthropic organization comprised of community
leaders in partnership with our school system since 1986.
Letter From Our Director
Dear Friends,
Studies consistently show that a person’s earning potential is directly related to their education and training.
Many students thrive in the public school system and are able to pursue post-secondary schooling or training
on their own. There are, however, many students that need additional support in the form of mentoring,
tutoring and/or scholarships. That is where we come in. The primary goal of the Alachua County Public
Schools Foundation is to help the children we serve reach their full potential.
We want to share with you some of our achievements from the past year:
• We gave away more than $82,000 in classroom and school-wide grants to
help teachers and schools develop exciting and creative classroom projects
to increase student success.
• Twenty-five seventh grade students entered our Take Stock in Children
program, bringing our current enrollment of seventh through twelfth
graders to 130. We are proud to report that 109 students have successfully
completed the program and continued on to college or technical school.
• Senior Scholarships were awarded to115 graduating seniors continuing their education and training in
technical schools, community colleges and universities.
• Over 4,000 first and fourth graders participated in our Black Stallion Literacy Program.
• As part of Career Tech Teacher Trek, 25 eighth grade teachers and counselors toured Alachua County’s
thirteen Career Academy Magnet Programs.
• 112 dedicated teachers and staff members were rewarded with more than $34,000 in recognition awards
and staff development scholarships.
Our success rests in the hands of our community – individuals, businesses and foundations that recognize that
a strong community depends on every child having the opportunity to achieve success through education.
We couldn’t accomplish this without your support.
In addition to changing the lives of our students, we have recently undergone some changes within the
Foundation itself.
This past July we said goodbye to the wonderful Mary Chance, who served as the
Foundation Executive Director for more than ten years.
I am honored to be the new Executive Director. I would welcome the opportunity to meet with each of you
to introduce myself, tell you more about the Foundation and share my vision for our future. Please contact
me, so that we can set up a time to meet in person, at 955-6891 or hasaktl@gm.sbac.edu.
Sincerely,
Taal Hasak-Lowy
Executive Director
